Founded in 1931 by a group of advertisers, publishers and agencies, BPA Worldwide is an independent, not-for-profit, self-regulating organization governed by a tripartite Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors, which sets auditing rules and organizational policies and oversees operations, is comprised of 17 advertiser and advertising agency representatives and 15 publication representatives. BPA's bylaws require that its Chairman, elected each May, is an executive from an advertiser or advertising agency member company.

Headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut, USA, BPA has the largest membership of any media-auditing organization in the world, spanning more than 30 countries. Worldwide, BPA serves more than 2,600 media properties—including B-to-B publications, consumer magazines, newspapers, Web sites, events, email newsletters, databases, wireless and other advertiser-supported media—as well as more than 2,700 advertiser and agency members.

Each medium has its own reporting format, designed to enable clear, meaningful access to all data relevant to that medium.

Business (B2B)/Consumer Publications

For print business and consumer publications, BPA verifies all-paid, all-controlled, or any combination of paid and controlled circulation, reported in a single document, with each type of circulation broken out. Demographics may also be reported and audited.

Interactive Audits

Web site audits employ census-based methodology to document general traffic for non-registered sites, demographics of registered users, advertising activity across an entire site, and ad-specific traffic.

Event Audits

Event Audits report an exhibition/event's verified attendance and demographics taken directly from registration information. The audit report is a powerful sales tool for show organizer sales/marketing teams helping exhibitors and sponsors to validate participation investment to their management. The audit process also provides organizers a qualitative check of pre- and at-show data gathering and verification methods.
