Here’s why:

BPA is the auditor known and trusted by advertisers and media buyers throughout the world. BPA’s unsurpassed stringency, industry-leading commitment to full reporting disclosure, and integrity has stood the test for more than 75 years. In an environment of increased media scrutiny, this record means more than ever to savvy media buyers and advertisers. That’s why media buyers in more than 30 countries count on BPA circulation audits for trusted, third-party verification that they are getting what they are paying for. No other audit bureau can make this statement.

BPA audit standards are the highest in the industry—and around the world. Not only do BPA Newspaper Audits measure and report on more areas within the circulation data, but our audit processes are the most rigorous and apply the most stringent policies of any third-party auditing organization.

BPA provides publishers and advertisers with the data they need when they need it. For community newspapers, our audits are completed within six months of the close of the reporting period, so the data is always current. For dailies, all data is audited before it is released.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How are BPA newspaper audits conducted?
After submitting a membership application and fees, a newspaper has up to 12 months to work with BPA to complete its initial audit.
Once the initial audit is passed, the newspaper files circulation claims twice per year. BPA audits these claims, on an issue-by-issue basis, once per year. The newspaper supplies press run and paper usage reports, shipping and distribution receipts, newsstand reports and ledgers for each issue, an electronic version of the circulation file, and other pre-specified documentation.
In most countries, BPA auditors analyze the data on site at the member's company.

What is reported/audited on a BPA Newspaper Statement?
-Total average circulation
-Average monthly circulation
-Digital circulation, if any (circulation totals = print + digital)
-Qualified paid and non-paid breakouts by individual and bulk
-Full geographic break-out
-Paid subscription/single-copy pricing
-Newspaper’s BPA circulation history (up to five years of data)
