Metro New York Completes Initial BPA Worldwide Audit
Average total qualified circulation verified as 303,026
Metro New York has completed its initial audit with BPA Worldwide. The audited average total qualified circulation for Metro New York for October 2004 was 303,026.
Metro New York, Metro Boston, and Metro Philadelphia comprise Metro USA, a division of Metro International, which currently publishes 40 newspaper editions in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. The papers carry local, national and international news in a standardized, accessible format designed to serve the needs of commuters and other busy consumers.
Beginning with October 2004, Metro New York will be perpetually audited on a monthly basis.
Each of Metro International's daily newspapers is distributed free through self-service racks, by hand through distributors located in or near public transportation networks (subways, trains, buses, trams), in hotels, office buildings and retail outlets, and at key distribution points on busy streets and in high-density population areas such as college campuses.
BPA Worldwide, which also audits Metro International's Metro Toronto and Metro Montreal through BPA's Canadian division, CCAB, is tracking the Metro USA newspapers' circulation and source make-up.
"We are excited about the rapid growth of distribution and readership of the Metro USA papers in New York, Boston and Philadelphia, and about sharing these first BPA-verified numbers
for Metro New York with our marketing partners," said Johan Hansson, managing director, North America, Metro International. "BPA is conducting meticulous verification of our distribution. We chose BPA as our auditor for this ground-breaking initiative for U.S. newspapers."
"We are pleased that Metro New York has successfully completed its initial audit with BPA Worldwide, and we look forward to auditingand releasing that audited datafor the Metro USA newspapers on a monthly basis, starting in 2005," said BPA president and CEO Glenn Hansen. "We welcome the opportunity to set a precedent for timely audited newspaper reporting in the United States."
