Because no two industries are alike, broad-based international standards may not always address the specific issues that affect an industry segment or individual organization.
That’s why iCompli works with industry associations to develop customized standards that focus on what’s important to the industry association’s members. These propriety standards address the association’s “hot button” issues and help raise the best practices of industry leaders to standard practice throughout the industry. A built-in compliance protocol by means of independent third-party certification helps:
- Build Credibility
- Raise Organizational Performance
- Create Competitive Advantage
- Enhance Reputation
Proprietary standards are a win-win proposition -- allowing the organization or association to enhance the value of membership by offering a service that addresses an industry issue, and generate an additional revenue stream through third-party certification of the standard.
Dubai Hotel Industry Requirements
As an example of our work in developing specific industry standards, iCompli Sustainability, in preparation for Expo 2020 to be held in Dubai, UAE, was commissioned in 2018 to work with the Dubai Corporation of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to create custom sustainability requirements for the Dubai hospitality industry (including meeting spaces). These requirements are now embedded by the government in the form of an updated Hotel Classification System.
As part of the project, iCompli developed 19 new sustainability requirements spanning the hotel management chain, including staff training, guest education, energy and water use, air quality, purchasing and community relations. iCompli also created inspection criteria for the hotels to help them comply with these new requirements and played an integral role in the training of the inspectors.
