  • What are the necessary steps to achieve Events Industry Council (EIC) Sustainable Event Standards Certification?

    Richard Murphy
    Richard Murphy, President & CEO

Major changes have been made to increase the EIC Sustainable Event Standards. Areas of focus include: ease of use, strengthening social-responsibility considerations, innovations, and outstanding performance. These standards replace the APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards.

The first step is to obtain the Endorsement of the Principles for Sustainable Events. These are voluntary standards available on the EIC Centre for Sustainable Events website.

Once criteria are met, pull together the documents to show adherence, and submit it to the BPA iCompli Sustainability team for review. To reach a certification level, you must demonstrate that you’ve met the criteria. Based on how many criteria you’ve met, and on the maximum number of points for each sector, certification will be awarded. Of course, be sure to share your story and success with your industry.
